Pressure Seal Globe Valve by Intechvalve – high pressure throttling and isolation for critical services

At Intechvalve, we design and manufacture pressure seal globe valves for high pressure and high temperature throttling and isolation applications in power generation, oil and gas, petrochemical, and refining industries with self sealing body bonnet connection, precise flow control, and reliable performance.

What Is a Pressure Seal Globe Valve? – Intechvalve explains

At Intechvalve, we define a pressure seal globe valve as a specialized globe valve designed for high pressure and high temperature services where conventional bolted bonnet valves become impractical due to the massive flange size and bolt requirements. The pressure seal valve uses a unique body bonnet connection that leverages internal pressure to enhance the seal. As line pressure increases, the sealing force on the gasket also increases, creating a tighter seal. This self sealing design allows Intechvalve pressure seal globe valves to be lighter, more compact, and more economical than bolted bonnet valves for the same pressure class while providing superior sealing performance under high pressure conditions. Unlike gate valves which are primarily for isolation, Intechvalve pressure seal globe valves excel at throttling, flow regulation, and precise control in high pressure applications including main steam systems, boiler feedwater, turbine bypass, and high pressure process lines.

Key Features and Value Propositions of Intechvalve Pressure Seal Globe Valves

Self Sealing Bonnet Design: I design Intechvalve pressure seal globe valves with a unique body bonnet connection where internal pressure forces the gasket against the sealing surfaces. Higher line pressure creates a tighter seal, ensuring leak free operation even under the most demanding conditions.

Excellent Throttling Capability: The linear motion design of Intechvalve pressure seal globe valves provides precise flow control, making them ideal for regulating high pressure steam, water, and process fluids where accurate control is essential.

Compact and Lightweight: Compared to conventional bolted bonnet valves of the same pressure class, Intechvalve pressure seal globe valves are significantly smaller and lighter, reducing installation space requirements, support structure needs, and overall cost.

High Pressure Capability: Intechvalve pressure seal globe valves are designed for high pressure services from Class 600 up to Class 4500, handling pressures that would require massive flanges and numerous bolts in conventional designs.

High Temperature Service: With appropriate material selection, Intechvalve pressure seal globe valves handle temperatures up to 650 degrees Celsius, making them ideal for power generation and high temperature process applications.

Superior Sealing Performance: The pressure energized seal provides reliable, leak tight operation under all operating conditions, from low pressure startup to full pressure operation.

Multiple Disc Designs: Intechvalve pressure seal globe valves are available with various disc designs including plug type for excellent throttling, ball type for general service, and needle type for fine flow control.

Wide Industry Use: From power generation (main steam, boiler feedwater, turbine bypass, drain systems), to oil and gas production, refining, and petrochemical processing, Intechvalve pressure seal globe valves provide reliable throttling and isolation in critical high pressure services.

How It Works – Principle of Operation by Intechvalve

An Intechvalve pressure seal globe valve operates similarly to a conventional globe valve but with a fundamentally different body bonnet sealing mechanism. The bonnet is installed inside the body and held in place by a retaining ring or yoke. A gasket, typically a corrugated stainless steel ring with graphite facing, is positioned between the bonnet and the body's tapered sealing surface. When the valve is pressurized, internal pressure acts on the bottom of the bonnet, forcing it upward and compressing the gasket against the body's tapered sealing surface. Higher pressure creates greater sealing force, ensuring a leak proof seal.

The flow control mechanism consists of a disc that moves linearly against a stationary seat. When the handwheel or actuator rotates the stem, the disc moves toward or away from the seat. In the closed position, the disc seats tightly against the seat ring, stopping flow. In open or throttling positions, the disc is lifted away from the seat, allowing flow through the valve. The flow path in an Intechvalve pressure seal globe valve typically enters below the seat and exits above the disc, ensuring that when the valve closes, pressure helps seat the disc tightly. This design provides excellent control characteristics, with the linear motion allowing infinite positioning between fully open and fully closed for precise throttling.

Selecting the Right Pressure Seal Globe Valve – Intechvalve Engineering Guide

Pressure seal globe valves are critical components in high pressure systems, and proper selection is essential for optimal performance and long service life. At Intechvalve, we guide our customers through the selection process based on their specific application requirements.

Body Pattern Selection from Intechvalve: T pattern (standard) globe valves offer the highest pressure drop and are suitable for most throttling applications where control is the primary requirement. Y pattern globe valves offer lower pressure drop and are preferred for high pressure steam services where minimizing pressure loss is important. Angle pattern globe valves are used where the piping changes direction, eliminating the need for an elbow and reducing installation costs.

Disc Design Selection from Intechvalve: Plug type discs provide the best throttling characteristics with a characterized flow curve, making them ideal for control applications requiring precise regulation throughout the stroke. Ball type discs offer good general purpose throttling and are suitable for most applications. Needle type discs provide very fine flow control for small bore lines and instrumentation applications.

Trim Material Selection from Intechvalve: For standard services up to 425 degrees Celsius, 13Cr trim offers good corrosion and erosion resistance. For higher temperatures and more demanding services, stainless steel trim (304 or 316) is recommended. For severe services with high pressure drops, erosive conditions, or frequent operation, Stellite faced disc and seat rings provide extended service life.

End Connection Selection from Intechvalve: Butt weld ends are standard for high pressure pressure seal globe valves, providing the strongest, most reliable connection with no potential leak paths. Socket weld ends are available for smaller sizes, and flanged ends can be provided when required for ease of maintenance.
